How to protect yourself from doing suicide

 Suicide
is  a ‘permanent solution’ to a temporary problem.”
Not everyone who's depressed is suicidal, but many people do have suicidal thoughts from time to time. If you're one of those people, there are a few things you can do to protect yourself from suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts.
Building a strong support system is the best thing you can do for yourself if you're suffering from depression, regardless of whether you feel suicidal. You don't have to share every thought and feeling you have, but knowing you have someone you can turn to if you need them makes a huge difference. Find somewhere safe where you can say "I'm having a hard time today" or "I'm scared," whether it's with a friend, family member, or virtual support group.
Creating a safety plan can be helpful, especially if you have attempted suicide in the past. Write down information that will help you cope if you find yourself having suicidal thoughts, and keep it handy. This can include a list of coping mechanisms, a reminder of behaviors and symptoms that mean you should seek professional help, and the contact information for your therapist, doctor, and trusted friends.
If you can identify what sets of your suicidal thoughts, try to avoid those things or have someone face those situations with you. Create a safe environment by removing weapons, large quantities of medication, and anything else that might trigger suicidal thoughts.
Above all, make sure you have the number of a crisis hotline and don't be afraid to call it.
“Although it might seem as if your unhappiness will never end, it is important to realize that crises are usually time-limited.  Solutions are found, feelings change, unexpected positive events occur.  Suicide is sometimes referred to as a ‘permanent solution’ to a temporary problem.”  American Association of Suicidology
